Sign 4. Rapid Heartbeat: The Unseen Drummer
Next on the list is tachycardia or a rapid heartbeat. Picture this – you’re sitting calmly, and out of the blue, your heart starts pounding as if you’re running a race. Quite unsettling, isn’t it? This seemingly random, rapid heartbeat can be a sign of low blood sugar.
Your heart is like a drummer, beating steadily to the rhythm of your body’s needs. When your blood sugar level dips, your body, in an attempt to compensate, releases hormones like adrenaline. This sudden surge can accelerate your heart rate, causing what feels like a frantic drummer in your chest.
You might feel like your heart is beating out of your chest or notice it skipping beats. Some people also report a feeling of ‘fluttering’ in their chest. Regardless of how you perceive it, the key is to identify that this is not your usual, exercise-induced increase in heart rate. It’s faster, abrupt, and occurs when you’re at rest. (*)
