Symptom 11. Skin Problems: More Than Skin Deep
Fibromyalgia can also bring along various skin-related issues. From rashes and dry skin to a heightened sensitivity to touch, the skin becomes yet another battleground for those dealing with this condition. It’s as if your skin, the boundary separating you from the outside world, has turned against you.
Often, individuals with fibromyalgia describe their skin as feeling sore or tender to touch, a symptom known as allodynia. Something as simple as a firm handshake or the weight of a blanket can feel uncomfortable, even painful.
In some cases, people may develop rashes or other changes in their skin’s appearance that can be itchy or painful. It’s a reminder of how wide-ranging the impacts of fibromyalgia can be, extending from the musculoskeletal system and internal organs to the body’s largest organ – the skin. (*)
